Hanging Cheek Snaffle with Copper Lozenge

This type of bit exerts mild pressure on the poll, which can aid control of strong horses and encourage them to lower their head. The cheek pieces are attached to the ring at the top and the rein on the large ring. 

The eggbutt mouthpiece is a snaffle bit which on some horses can be more comfortable than a loose ring snaffle as the rings cannot move and pinch the corners of the mouth. The cheek is fixed in relation to the mouthpiece, providing an element of lateral control - assisting in turning. The lozenge changes the action of the bit from a nutcracker action to an action exerting pressure on the tongue.

As the cheeks are fixed in relation to the mouthpiece, mobility is reduced which can be advantageous in horses than have very active mouths, although can reduce sensitivity.
