The starter is designed to promote acceptance of and confidence in the contact and so is perfect for very young horses.  The aim of Neue Schule bits is to optimise quiet communication between horse and rider to enhance performance.

It is a common misconception that mouthing should be encouraged, when in fact it is quiet, relaxed acceptance we should be aiming for. The Starter Bit is a gentle bit that encourages the horse to stretch the top line forwards and down into a soft consistent contact.

Ergonomically designed, Neue Schule bits incorporate a unique warmer metal that promotes acceptance of the bit and helps to ensure that more relaxed communciation between horse and rider.The starter mouthpeice is designed for young horses, or for remedial work to promote a correct outline.  The mouthpiece provides a comfortable feel over the tongue, and reduces pressure over the more sensitive outer edges. Neue Schule bits work by pressing on the tongue in order to communicate, rather than pressing on the roof of the mouth, which although is an area that can be easily damaged, actually has much fewer nerves and so feels less than the tongue.
