The Chifney, also known as an anti-rearing bit, is an in-hand bit designed for horses that are difficult to lead.
A useful bit in some circumstances to help handle spirited horses, the majority of horses will not need this level of control. It is intended to be used when leading the horse, never use for travelling or when a horse is tied up.
Chifneys are best fitted over a head collar. This allows the lead rope to be attached to both the loose ring on the back of the chifney and the centre ring on the head collar, stabilising the bit within the mouth.
